Short answers to the questions candidates ask most about the Sprechen module, checked against the official Goethe-Institut model papers and exam regulations.
A1 15 minutes, A2 15 minutes (10 if alone), B1 about 15 minutes, B2 about 15 (about 10 alone), C1 about 20 (about 15 alone) and C2 about 15 minutes.
A1 is a group exam with up to four candidates and two examiners. A2 to C1 are pair exams, with a single format possible. C2 is an individual exam: you discuss with the examiner.
Not at A1 and A2. At B1, B2 and C2 you get 15 minutes and at C1 20 minutes, once for the whole module, and you may take notes.
Two examiners rate independently on fixed criteria. At A1 the three Teile give 15 raw points, converted to 25 of the exam total. At A2 the module is worth 25 points including 5 for pronunciation. From B1 it is scored out of 100, with 16 points for pronunciation at B1, B2 and C1. At C2 five criteria per Teil give 40 points, multiplied by 2.5.
From B1 to C2, 60 of 100 points. At A2 you need at least 15 of the 25 Sprechen points as well as 60 overall. At A1 Sprechen counts towards the overall 60 of 100.
In Teil 2 you choose one of two topics and present it along five slides: introduce the topic, your own experience, the situation in your home country, pros and cons with your opinion, and a conclusion. Then you discuss it in Teil 3.
No. The short introduction at the beginning of the A2, B1 and C2 exams is not rated.
From B1 upwards, yes: B1, B2, C1 and C2 are modular. Each of the four modules is scored out of 100, passed with 60, and can be taken and retaken on its own. A1 is not modular and can only be repeated as a whole; at A2 repeating only the written or only the oral part is possible in exceptional cases.
Every Teil is described on the Sprechen description page, sample tasks with answers are on the Sprechen samples page, and the criteria and conversion are on the Sprechen scoring page.
