Two task types were added in August 2025: Summarize Group Discussion and Respond to a Situation. The rest of the format is unchanged, and both new tasks are available to practise here with scoring and corrections.

PTE reports an overall score from 10 to 90, plus the same scale for each communicative skill. Scoring is integrated, so a single task can contribute to more than one skill — a Read Aloud answer counts towards both speaking and reading.

Each section is scored 5–495 from the number of correct answers, then added for a total of 10–990. There is no penalty for a wrong answer, so it is always worth attempting every question.

Yes. Listening & Reading and Speaking & Writing are booked and scored separately, with Speaking & Writing reported 0–200 per skill. You can practise all four skills here regardless of which one you sit.

Scores are typically treated as current for two years. Some employers accept older results, so confirm with whoever is asking for the score.

From mid-2026 IELTS is delivered on computer worldwide. The sections, task types, timings and band scale stay exactly as they are — only the delivery changes, so preparation done now still applies.

Academic is for university study and professional registration; General Training is for work and migration. Listening and speaking are identical in both; reading and writing differ.

Each section gets a band from 0 to 9, and the overall band is the average of the four, rounded to the nearest half band. Listening and reading come from raw correct answers; writing and speaking are judged against published criteria.

Your essay is assessed on task achievement, coherence and cohesion, lexical resource and grammatical range and accuracy — the four official criteria — and returned with sentence-level corrections and an estimated band.

An IELTS result is normally accepted for two years. Some universities and immigration authorities apply their own limits, so check before you book a retake.
