TOEIC Speaking Test Overview

The TOEIC Speaking test is designed to measure your ability to speak English in a workplace environment. The test consists of 5 different task types that assess various aspects of spoken English communication, from basic pronunciation to complex opinion expression.

Task 1: Read Aloud

You will read aloud a text displayed on the screen. This task evaluates your pronunciation, intonation, and fluency.

• Preparation time: 45 seconds
• Response time: 45 seconds per question
• Text length: 50-100 words

Tips for Success:

• Practice reading aloud regularly to improve fluency
• Pay attention to word stress and sentence rhythm
• Speak clearly and at a natural pace
• Use the preparation time to identify difficult words

Task 2: Describe a Picture

You will describe a picture in as much detail as possible. This task assesses your ability to organize information and describe visual content clearly.

Task Details:

• Questions: 1 question
• Preparation time: 45 seconds
• Response time: 30 seconds
• Picture type: Workplace or daily life scenes

Tips for Success:

• Start with a general description, then add details
• Use present continuous tense for ongoing actions
• Describe people, objects, and activities systematically
• Include spatial relationships (left, right, in front of, etc.)

Task 3: Respond to Questions

You will answer three questions based on a given context. This task evaluates your ability to provide appropriate responses in conversational situations.

Task Details:

• Questions: 3 questions (Questions 5, 6, 7)
• Preparation time: 3 seconds after each question
• Response time: 15 seconds for Questions 5-6, 30 seconds for Question 7
• Context: Various everyday situations

Tips for Success:

• Listen carefully to the context before questions begin
• Give complete but concise answers
• Use the full time allotted for each response
• Provide specific examples when possible

Task 4: Respond to Questions Using Information Provided

You will answer three questions based on information provided (text and/or image). This task tests your ability to extract and communicate information effectively.

Task Details:

• Questions: 3 questions (Questions 8, 9, 10)
• Reading time: 45 seconds to read information
• Preparation time: 3 seconds after each question
• Response time: 15 seconds for Questions 8-9, 30 seconds for Question 10
• Question 10: Heard twice

Tips for Success:

• Use the 45 seconds to understand the information thoroughly
• Take notes if helpful during reading time
• Base your answers directly on the provided information
• Don't add personal opinions unless asked

Task 5: Express an Opinion

You will give your opinion about a specific topic. This task evaluates your ability to express and support your views clearly and coherently.

• Questions: 1 question (Question 11)
• Preparation time: 45 seconds
• Response time: 60 seconds
• Topic type: Workplace or general interest topics

Tips for Success:

• State your opinion clearly at the beginning
• Provide 2-3 supporting reasons or examples
• Use transition words to connect ideas
• Practice expressing opinions on various topics

Scoring Criteria

Your TOEIC Speaking test is scored based on three main criteria:

Pronunciation

Clarity of speech, word stress, and intonation patterns

Intonation

Natural rhythm and stress patterns in connected speech

Vocabulary

Appropriate word choice and range of vocabulary
