Task 1 (Listen and Repeat) returns Repeat Accuracy, Intelligibility and Fluency - how completely you repeated the prompt, how clearly you pronounced it, and how smoothly you said it. Task 2 (Take an Interview) returns Organization & Development, Language Use and Pronunciation - whether you fully answered with clear, logical ideas, your grammar and vocabulary range, and how clearly you spoke. Both tasks add an Overall score combining their criteria.

How is Writing scored?

Writing is scored automatically against TOEFL-style criteria: grammar accuracy, task completion, vocabulary range and organisation. Build a Sentence checks whether your sentence is grammatically correct and uses the given words properly within the time limit. Write an Email checks whether you addressed every bullet point in the right register. You get your score plus a corrected version of your text within seconds.

How is Listening scored?

Automatically and deterministically: each question across Listen and Choose a Response, Conversations, and Announcements and Academic Talks is checked correct or incorrect, then combined into a 1-6 section score with 0.5 increments - the same way the real test scores it, with no AI judgment involved.

What is the main difference between TOEFL 2026 and the old TOEFL?

Three things changed. Format: Reading and Listening are now adaptive - a routing module decides whether you see easier or harder content next, instead of a fixed set of passages and lectures. Scoring: sections are now reported on a 1-6 scale with 0.5 increments instead of the old 0-30 per section. Timing: the whole test is about 1.5 hours, roughly half the old length, since Integrated Speaking and Integrated Writing were removed and Speaking now gives no preparation time at all. That last change matters most for prep - with Take an Interview and Listen and Repeat, there's no time to plan an answer, so the memorized templates that used to work on the old Independent Speaking task barely help anymore.
