TOEIC Listening Test Overview

The TOEIC Listening test measures your ability to understand spoken English in workplace and everyday situations. The test consists of 4 parts with 100 questions total, lasting approximately 45 minutes.

Task Types and Descriptions

Task 1: Photographs (Questions 1-6)

Description:

You will see a photograph and hear four statements about it. Choose the statement that best describes what you see in the picture.

Tips for Success:

• Look at the entire picture, not just one part
• Listen for key words that match what you see
• Pay attention to prepositions (in, on, under, next to)
• Be careful of similar-sounding words
• Eliminate obviously wrong answers first

Task 2: Question-Response (Questions 7-31)

Description:

You will hear a question or statement followed by three possible responses. Choose the most appropriate response.

Task 3: Conversations (Questions 32-70)

Description:

You will hear conversations between two or more people. After each conversation, you will answer three questions about what was said.

• Note important information like times, dates, and locations
• Listen for opinions, agreements, and disagreements
• Practice with business and everyday conversations

Task 4: Short Talks (Questions 71-100)

Description:

You will hear short talks given by a single speaker. After each talk, you will answer three questions about what was said.

Tips for Success:

• Listen for the main topic and purpose of the talk
• Pay attention to announcements, instructions, and news
• Note specific details like times, dates, and locations
• Listen for the speaker's attitude or opinion
• Practice with various types of announcements

Scoring and Results

Score Range:

Your listening score will be between 5 and 495 points. The score is based on the number of correct answers.

Beginner: 5-250

Intermediate: 255-400

Advanced: 405-495

Score Interpretation:

• 405-495: Can understand complex conversations and detailed information
• 305-400: Can understand most workplace and everyday conversations
• 205-300: Can understand basic conversations and simple information
• 5-200: Can understand very basic conversations and familiar topics
